For the record, who's answering the interview?
MENTAL KILLING SPREE
Hi there everyone, it's Timm here, I'm responsible for the vocals and lyrics of Mental Killing Spree. Thank you very much for the possibility to do an interview!

ATP
What is your band's name? How did you come up with that name?
MENTAL KILLING SPREE
Well, the inspiration behind the name Mental Killing Spree is quite similar to the entire inspiration of our lyrics, the hidden aggression that lurks in all of us but that can rarely be seen in its pure outbreak because it mostly gets blocked by morale or ethics or just fear, the only way for natural instincts or the unconscious in general to show up is in fantasies or dreams. The simple question behind our bandname is: How would our society look like when we all would just act as our raw drives and instincts are telling us to act? In some way we’re just animals equipped with a consciousness but the archaic source of our actions is still present deep inside our mind. We’re even able to partially shape our instincts but nevertheless they are still there.

ATP
So who's in the band and what instruments do you each play?
MENTAL KILLING SPREE
In our band there are Jörg (drums), Slav (guitar) and me doing the vocals. Right now we're looking for a new bassplayer.

ATP
How would you describe your sound. What makes you unique?
MENTAL KILLING SPREE
Uniqueness is always hard to describe especially when it comes to our own style of deathmetal interpretation. We don't know if our noise is unique, we create that kind of music that we would like to listen to ourselves, and if there's someone calling it unique it's cool for us, if somebody claims that we sound like a specific band or several bands it's ok too, because that means a big compliment for us. Generally we're trying to find our way of style and that is trying to be as brutal but at the same time as straight as possible.

ATP
What bands have influenced each of you?
MENTAL KILLING SPREE
This is always a difficult question, we’ve been compared with several death-metal bands like Morbid Angel, Decapitated, Asphyx, Hail of Bullets, Vital remains etc., every single comparison is a big compliment for us but we would never ever compare ourselves with one single band, well, when we are writing a song the final product is always a product of all the bands we ever have listened to in the past and we are listening to right now and those can be found mainly in the deathmetal sector. Our music, and I think I can speak for all musicians and bands here, is always dynamically influenced by sounds of the past and the present. I think it’s always better to just enjoy the music without thinking in stereotypes or similarities.

ATP
How experienced are you on the stage, a virgin or whore?
MENTAL KILLING SPREE
Haha, well, according to the fact that we just performed 3-4 gigs per year (mainly in our nearby region) since our EP was released I would say that we are stage virgins more or less.

ATP
How would you describe your shows?
MENTAL KILLING SPREE
It’s always hard to describe how our own show might appear, but after a gig one of our fans once told us that “it’s like a fuckin’ freight-train with full speed mangling your body over and over again”, lol.

ATP
Tell us about your favorite show and why?
MENTAL KILLING SPREE
Can't say that there was a special most favorable gig, we enjoyed each time with all those bands we played with, it's always a great experience to meet other bands and party with them after the gig! Although I have to admit that it always means more fun to play in front of a lot of people that really freak out during the show and/or that even know our songs!

ATP
Tell us about your worst show and why?
MENTAL KILLING SPREE
Well, I can't name a specific gig but shows are always much more fun when there is a bunch of people who react on our sound and show coming from the stage, we once experienced a gig where the venue was properly crowded and we were already looking forward to enter the stage as a headliner. As soon as the last band stopped (it was from that town we played in) the venue almost completely emptied, seemed that all those people were just there to see this one band from their hometown. It's a general phenomenon (in my opinion) that can often be experienced here in Germany that bands often bring their own fan clubs that, as fast as they come, leave the venue again after the gig of their favored band; don't know what it's like in other countries. It's kind of sad because they don't give other bands a chance without even knowing them.

ATP
Tell Us About Your Dream Show, who you'd like to play with and where?
MENTAL KILLING SPREE
Our absolute dream would be to play a gig at one of those great open-air festivals specialized in deathmetal like e.g. the Party-san here in Germany or elsewhere in the world, we don't have any special bands which we would prefer to play with.

ATP
Do you have a street team and how can you join?
MENTAL KILLING SPREE
No, right now we don't have a street-team, we had one once based on a myspace-page but after a time we decided to delete it but perhaps the time has come again to create one, would be cool! If there are people somewhere interested pls write us a message on facebook!

ATP
Do you have a record label and if not are you looking for one?
MENTAL KILLING SPREE
We don't have a record label so far. Yeah, we are very interested in getting fair contract-offers for distro and label-support, we haven’t received any interest requests yet but our CD has just been published, we’ll see what the future holds in store according to this.

ATP
What are your plans for the future, in a year, 5 years?
MENTAL KILLING SPREE
We will now work on expanding our radius and apply for some gigs in Germany (festivals or open air) and beyond, if possible, so we are working parallel on spreading our word all around the world. We plan a small tour in next year’s summer through Poland at the moment but we are open for all gig-offers we can get!! So don’t hesitate to contact us via Facebook, which is currently our mainpage as well.

ATP
Finally, do have any words on what Arm The Pit means to you?
MENTAL KILLING SPREE
Getting a presence on ATP means a lot to us because in our opinion the existence of underground music networks such as ATP are essential for keeping the variety of worldwide deathmetal-underground alive. Providing a platform means spreading the word of and for all those bands. Thx to people like you we are enabled to reach our potential audience otherwise there would be nothing but silence and range limitation. Thx a lot for this interview and keep up your great work!
